The San Diego Chargers attempt to become and NFL Picks in the AFC Championship Game this weekend and spoil the New England Patriots drive for an unbeaten season and a 4th Super Bowl title. Outside of the Patriots the Chargers come in as the hottest team in the NFL having won their last eight in a row. Much of the success can be attributed to the much improved performance of their defense as the Chargers have given up averages of only 13.1 points and 285.1 yards over the last eight weeks while forcing 26 turnovers and totaling 26 sacks. Last season San Diego was the team that took the league's best record into the playoffs only to lose 24-21 to these same Patriots. These two teams met earlier in the year and San Diego had one of its worst games of the season losing 38-14. The Chargers to come in with some key injury concerns with a sprained knee of quarterback Philip Rivers, who is listed as questionable and to RB LaDianian Tomlinson who has a knee injury although he expects to play. As is most of the talk in the NFL this season the New England Patriots look to make history as they are currently 17-0 and look to become the first team in history to go 19-0. During the regular season New England scored an NFL record 589 points while QB Tom Brady set a league record with 50 touchdown passes and WR Randy Moss broke one with 23 TD receptions. However, All the records racked up by the Patriots and Tom Brady and Randy Moss as well as going undefeated it really won't matter if the Patriots don't get back to the Super Bowl, having won it following the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons. Certainly if you want to wager on the Patriots you would certainly have good number to go on as they are 20-8 ATS versus teams who force 2.5 or more turnovers per game on the season since 1992. But before betting blindly consider that the San Diego Chargers have trends on their side as well going 10-0 ATS versus good passing teams averaging 235 or more passing yards/game. over the last 3 seasons. This is the round that ended the Patriots' season last year as they blew an 18-point lead in a 38-34 loss at Indianapolis. Will that happen again this time around?
