Sport Spies previews the first game of a three-game set featuring American League playoff hopefuls at Fenway Park. Chicago started its current 10-game road trip with a three game sweep of Cleveland and now is searching to win four straight since a five-game winning streak July 26-30. The White Sox also welcomed former Dodgers and Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez to the lineup on Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a single. “We’ve been scoring runs since June 1,” first baseman Paul Konerko said. “Not to take anything away from Manny’s day or what he’s going to do.” The club is a remarkable 17-5 after three or more consecutive wins and the total runs is 8-14 Over/Under. Chicago is 5-12 when traveling to Boston during the regular season since 2005. White Sox starting pitcher John Danks will be making his 27th start of the season, posting a 12-9 record and 3.65 ERA. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 7.79 ERA in his last three starts, but is 5-2 with a 3.75 ERA in his last 10 outings overall. In five career starts against the Red Sox, Danks has compiled a 1-4 record and 5.08 ERA, including an even 1-1 mark and 4.50 ERA in two appearances at Fenway Park. Boston comes into this important September series trailing the first-place Yankees by eight games in the AL East and the wild card-leading Rays by 6 1/2. The Red Sox offense produced 15 runs in winning the final two games of a series against Baltimore this week and the team hopes to make waves at home. “We got some momentum going and hopefully we can take it home,” reliever Scott Atchison said. The club is 40-27 overall at home and 61-40 when playing under the lights. Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz is 15-5 with a 2.21 ERA in 23 starts this season and had his 26-inning scoreless streak snapped in his last start. He has allowed just a single earned run in his last 30.1 innings of work. The right-hander will be making his first start against the White Sox this season, as he’s 0-1 with a 14.09 ERA in two career outings. Buchholz has given up five home runs in 7.2 career innings versus tonight’s opponent, tied for his most against any opponent. Recommended Bet Bettors will find a great opportunity in backing the White Sox (2.36, +136) due to the Red Sox less-than-stellar 24-20 record against left-handed starters. Chicago is also a solid 7-2 this season following an off day.
