Enjoy our breakdown on our hot and cold pitchers which will give you a look at two featured hot pitchers going on the current day along with a struggling pitcher featured that I believe will come with a solid start. Yesterday's Featured Pitchers: Johan Santana (6 IP, WIN, 0 ER) Ubaldo Jimenez (pending) Cold Featured Pitcher: Joe Saunders (pending) Hot Starters: Tim Lincecum (4-0, 27 IP, 1.00 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) No shock here with the reigning Cy Young winner. However, this is his debut as our "poster boy" for the hot handicapper. He won't have an easy task on Wednesday as he'll face the Phillies, a team that can sure hit. However, Lincecum over his career vs. the Phillies in the last two years has gone 29 IP giving up 21 hits, 5 walks, 4 ER and 32 K's with a 1.29 ERA. I like the match up against Hamels who has really struggled since last year, but the Giants have just a .127 average in 71 AB vs. Hamels. Do note that the Giants are hitting lefties hard this year with a .294 average. This will be a day start in San Fran and Hamels had a 4.99 ERA on the road a year ago along with a 5.44 ERA during the day so watch out for this game. Also noteworthy is Lincecum and the Giants run as favorites when he pitches. The Giants are an amazing 35-16 in Lincecum's last 51 starts as a favorite. Warning: Lincecum has not pitched as well during his day starts in fact he had a 3.42 ERA during the day in 2009 in 11 starts while posting a 2.04 ERA in his 21 night starts. vRyan Dempster (2-0, 27.2 IP, 2.60 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 26K's) Dempster has been amazing thus far this year and he'll go up against the struggling Nationals in a day start at Wrigley. Countless times we cashed in on the Cubs during day starts at Wrigley and you should be confident of that again on Wednesday. They are one of the best day teams in the league. Dempster however is on just 4 days rest this after throwing 114, 120 and 111 pitches in his last three starts. This is a lot of pitches, but what it does tell you is that he has pitched well in every one of those three starts including going into the 8th inning in his last two. The nationals in their last 5 have struggled against RHP batting just .212 with 2.35 runs per 9 innings. Honorable Mention: Dallas Braden (26 IP, 3-0, 2.77 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) Max Sherzer (24 IP, 2.62 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) Cold Starters: John Lester (21.2 IP, 0-2, 6.23 ERA) Lester is having a bad time trying to get guys out right now. Look for Lester though to have a solid start on Wednesday in my opinion. He has been dominant against the Blue Jays with a 27.1 IP ER and a 3-1 record in 4 starts in 2009. He'll face off against another lefty in Brett Cecil who has given up 12 ER in two starts against the Red Sox. The Blue Jays have absolutely struggled against left handed pitchers. This year they have a very bad average at .185 and are scoring 1.91 runs per 9 innings vs. LHP. Boston overall is scoring 5.03 runs per 9 innings vs. LHP this year. Again I expect Lester to be a small favorite and to hold a lot of value for us considering the Blue Jays struggles. Ice Cold: John Maine (0-1, 8.64 ERA, 2.10 WHIP) Jake Peavy (7.60 ERA, 22.1 IP, 1.84 WHIP) Gil Meche (0-2, 11.37 ERA, 2.45 WHIP)
