After a disastrous season last year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers turned it completely around this year and look to beat the New York Giants today in a Wild Card matchup. Much of their turn around this year can be attributed to the play of QB Jeff Garcia who posted a 94.6 quarterback rating which was seventh in the league while throwing for 2,440 yards, 13 touchdowns with only four interceptions. Over the last couple of weeks head coach Jon Gruden decided to rest his regulars as they had their division in the bag. Today he hops that strategy pays off as they are hoping WR’s Galloway and Hilliard will be able to contribute as they combined for more than 1,700 receiving yards. If so, that will put a huge burden on the Giants pass defense as they have been prone to giving up big plays this season and will be further weakened as cornerback Sam Madison aggravated a pulled stomach muscle last week. QB Jeff Garcia will also be making his third playoff appearance versus the Giants and thus far has grabbed two playoff victories over the Giants in the past six seasons. After a fast start to the season the New York Giants once again struggled down the stretch going only 4-4 SU to finish the year 10-6 SU overall. The Giants are hoping today that they can get some good play out of QB Eli Manning. The fourth-year quarterback had a good performance last week versus the Patriots as the completed 22 of 32 for 251 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. However, this season he has been very inconsistent as he also threw a career high 20 interceptions this season with 23 touchdowns. What could help Manning is the fact that New York sports a versatile rushing attack led by Brandon Jacobs (1,009 yards) and rookie Ahmad Bradshaw (8.3 yards per carry). But their rushing attack is going to be challenged today as they will be facing a Bucs defense that was second in the league in yards allowed at 278.4 yards per game and first in passing defense giving up 170.5 yards per game and third in points allowed at 16.9 points per game. As both teams struggled down the stretch the New York Giants had their best performance on the road this season going 7-1 SU & 6-2 ATS. The Giants are also in the postseason for the third straight year and are 11-2 ATS in their L13 road games versus NFC opponents. However they haven’t won a playoff game since January of 2001.
